RSG Mission

The contents of the website at the end of June 2008 are based on Unit 1 of my own elementary curriculum.
Japanese elementary school teachers throughout Japan face a daunting challenge of becoming competent English teachers. I hope that the contents of this website will contribute towards that goal.

Janken Conversation Rounds ジャンケン英会話ロウンド

This is a core activity of the Ready-Set-GO! English program. It can be used for sentences, negatives, Q & A, commands/gestures, & vocabulary (english to japanese or japanese to english).
If time is short, only one pair does the activity (about 1 minute). As time allows, a half row or a whole row of students can rotate (this takes about 2-3 or 5 minutes).

The conversation pattern is posted on the blackboard, or taken from the Poster Text. The rotation pattern is also shown on the blackboard.

To play: Students, in seat pairs, play Janken (Rock-Paper-Scissors). The winner (W), or sometimes Loser (L) begins the conversation according to the posted pattern, and the 2 paired students continue until they finish the posted conversation pattern.
When the conversation is finished, the student on the rotation side moves one seat forward (or back). The new pairs play Janken and do the posted conversation, as before.

The activity continues until a student returns to his or her own seat.

Bar Code Repeater

You can use a Bar Code Repeater, a kind of CD player often used in language classes, to play the Ready-Set-GO! English CDs. If you have a Bar Code Repeater, look in the instruction book that came with the machine. There you might find a list of bar codes for tracks 1 to 99. Use this page (or a copy) to choose the tracks shown on the Text Poster.

I tried to scan a copy of the bar code tracks, but the quality wasn't good enough for the bar code reader to read. If you want me to mail you a copy, email me and I can send you one.

Activity Downloads 活動ドウンロード

The links below are for extra activities. In the conversations, S1 = student 1, S2= student 2; W= janken winner, L= janken loser.

  • 'I have a/2 cats.' pair print. In pairs. Students take turns circling 1 or 2 cats (or dogs or horses) and saying 'I have a cat' or 'I have 2 cats'. The student with only 1 cat showing at the end loses the game.
